A guide to your KLD Furnishings.

STAIN RESISTANCE

The fabrics we use are intentionally chosen for their ability to stand up to real-life wear. In the case of spills, work quickly to blot the area with a damp cloth. In most cases, this should be all that is needed to prevent staining.

DURABLE CONSTRUCTION

Our fabrics meet—and typically exceed—durability standards set by our industry, as well as our own high standards for quality. They are created with durable fibers and time-tested construction methods to stand the test of time.

OIL-BASED STAIN REPELLENCY

Many of our kid-proof furnishings are upholstered with fabrics specifically engineered to repel oil-based stains. The most common of these are crayons, pizza grease, butter, and other oil-based dressings and foods.

LIQUID REPELLENCY

If your piece is designated as liquid repellant, daily spills will simply puddle on the surface of the fabric to be blotted away—even coffee and juice. Many of our kid-proof fabrics feature this technology.

BLEACH FRIENDLY

Many of our kid-proof fabrics are designed with solution-dyed fibers to allow for the use of strong detergents like bleach. If treating a stain with bleach, create a solution of ten parts water to one part bleach, then rinse with clean water once done.

PLANET FRIENDLY

Many of our fabrics—and more every day—are completely free of fluorine and PFC chemicals. They are instead engineered with recycled, upcycled, or natural fibers. We are committed to working toward sustainability in every facet of our business.

ODOR RESISTANCE

Our odor resistant fabrics employ Silver Ion technology. In short, they're designed to prohibit microbial development, therefore blocking odors caused by growing bacteria. These fabrics are ideal for pets and children.

Caring for Textiles/Fabric

When it comes to maintaining the look and longevity of textiles and fabrics, creating a simple care routine is key. If possible, vacuum your furnishings weekly using the upholstery attachment of your vacuum cleaner. When you have extra time, remove the cushions and vacuum between and underneath. While you have the cushions off, rotate them to minimize wear and extend the life of your pieces.

Clean spills immediately by dabbing them up with a soft cloth. Once the excess liquid is absorbed, use a damp cloth to remove the stain. If this isn't enough to remove it, reference the care guide for your piece's specific cleaning code. This code can be found on the tag attached to your furniture. Always use a spot test before employing any cleaning methods.

Take care to limit direct sunlight to your furnishings as it can cause fading.

WARNING:
Do not launder or dry clean cushion covers. Do not use bleach unless specified appropriate by your care guide. Washing and tumble drying your fabrics may result in damage or shrinking.

Care Tips for Leather

Leather is inherently durable and, if cared for correctly, can outlast most other upholstery options. It will withstand years of daily use, and any wear will just add patina and character. We frequently recommend leather to our design clients as a long-term investment in their home.

For regular maintenance and removal of body oils and dust, simply wipe with a lightly dampened cloth monthly.

Do not use any soaps or chemicals on your leather furnishings. Your leather has been preserved during the tanning process, and a quick wipe is all that it needs.

Two or three times per year, you can give your furnishings a deep clean using a leather-specific cleaner. These are formulated with your leather's needs in mind and are the only products that should be used.

  • While washable slipcovers are an attractive option, we still recommend having them professionally dry cleaned. Should you choose to wash your slipcover at home, here are our best practices:

Run your washer through a cycle with water before putting your slipcover in. This will wash away any leftover detergents, bleaches, or softeners that might compromise your fabric.

You will need to wash the entire slipcover together if possible. Washing pieces might result in color variations that will change the look of your piece.

If needed, separate your collection into two loads but wash the second load immediately and with the same exact methods as the first.

  • Before washing, take care to zip any zippers. Select the gentle cycle and wash on cold with mild detergent. Do not use anything containing bleach.

Remove your slipcovers immediately when the cycle has finished. Air dry if possible. If you do use your dryer, choose the "no heat" setting to prevent shrinking. When the pieces are only slightly damp, place them back on the frame. This will help them dry to fit. Rotate cushions every 30 minutes until they are dry to prevent pooling.
