Rug Selection

Living Room

Common sizes: 8x10, 9x12, 10x14, 12x15
Front legs of sofa on rug at least
At least 6" extended past furnishings
Minimum 6" border between rugs and walls

SHOP LIVING ROOM RUGS

Bedroom

KLD Tip: Even if your bedroom has carpet, a rug layered over the top can ground the space and add visual interest to an otherwise bland floor.

Don't forget to leave breathing room between the rug and the walls when choosing a rug size.

SHOP BEDROOM RUGS

King Bed

• Leave 8" between nightstands and rug
• Rug should extend at least 2" past bed
• Maintain at least 8" of border along walls
• Preferred sizes: 8x10, 9x12

Full / Queen Bed

• Leave 4" between nightstands and rug
• Rug should extend at least 12" past bed
• Consider impact of rug on other furnishings
•Maintain at least 8" of border along walls
• Preferred sizes: 6x9, 8x10

Twin Bed

• Leave 8" between nightstands and rugs
• Rug should extend at least 12" past bed
• Consider using a runner with two beds
• Maintain at least 8" of border along walls
• Preferred sizes: 5x7, 6x9, runner

Dining Room

  • Chairs should be on rug when pushed under table
  • Maintain at least 8" of border along walls
  • Keep at least 12" between furniture and floors
  • Preferred sizes: 8x10, 9x12, 10x14
